Oberlin Percussion Group is part of the percussion program at Oberlin. Compositions by composers such as Cage, Cowell, Harrison. OPG has commissioned more than 18 compositions by Wood, Nielson, Hause, Coleman, Dougherty, Lauricella, Adams, Mizelle, Miller and Cummings. OPG has also presented the American premieres of many works including Birtwistle/The Hobbyhorse is Forgot, Xenakis/Pleiades and Idmen B,Voûtes/Levinas, Parade/Wenjing, Marimbastück/Ishii, Sunspot/Endo, Darkness/Donatoni, Con Luigi Dallapiccola/Nono, Metal Metal/Sandström,Imaginario/de Pablo, Home Organs/Meadowcroft, and Zytraffer/Hauser.
For the past four decades composer and percussionist Adam Rudolph has performed extensively throughout North & South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He has released over 30 recordings under his own name, featuring his compositions and percussion work. Rudolph composes for his Moving Pictures Octet, Hu: Vibrational Percussion group and Go: Organic Orchestra. He has conducted hundreds of musicians worldwide in his Go: Organic Orchestra concept.
Rudolph has performed with Yusef Lateef, Don Cherry, Sam Rivers, Pharaoh Sanders, Muhal Richard Abrams, Shankar, Wadada Leo Smith, Philip Glass, Jon Hassel Omar Sosa and Fred Anderson.
Rudolph is one the early innovators of “World Music”. In 1978 he co-founded the Mandingo Griot Society with Foday Musa Suso and in 1988, he recorded the first fusion of American and Gnawa music with Hassan Hakmoun.
In 2006, Advance Music published Rudolph’s book, Pure Rhythm.
