About Donald Barrett

Donald Barrett was born in Waukegan, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He learned to play the drums at the age of three years old. After graduating high school Donald Barrett received a scholarship at Northern Illinois University. During his stay at NIU, he immersed himself in every musical style and studied with some of the jazz greats including professor Ron Carter, Ed Thigpen and Wynton Marsalis.

Donald Barrett has worked with Lady Gaga,Toni Braxton, George Benson, Sade, Seal, Pink, New Kids On The Block, Jesse McCartney, Dolly Parton, CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, Lionel Richie, Colbie Caillat, Miguel, Leona Lewis, Pussy Cat Dolls, Snoop Dog, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes and many more. Donald Barrett has also worked on many film and tv projects for Disney, NBC, CBS and MTV. Donald Barrett’s band IMPROV TRIO has 2 live album releases “Live at Hotel Cafe Vol 1 & 2”

Current releases include features on award winning film composer Lyle Workmans new album “Uncommon Measures”, “MusiCares Tribute To Dolly Parton” Concert on Netflix, the newly released feature film “Coming 2 America” starring Eddie Murphy and on CBS 4 time Emmy nominated musical special “One Last Time” Featuring Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.

Donald Barrett Currently can be seen swinging away with Lady Gaga’s 40 piece orchestra for Her Jazz and Piano show in Las Vegas and He also serves as the musical director at his church “The Fountain Church” in Pomona California.
