Gilu Amaral and Chris Nolasco – Gilú Amaral is widely recognized as one of the leading Brazilian percussionists of his generation. Despite his young age, Gilú has vast musical experience having composed and played with artists such as: Naná Vasconcelos, Renata Rosa, Mundo Livre. S/A, Bonsucesso Samba Clube, Ave Sangria, Academia da Berlinda, Marcelo Bratke and Banda de Pau e Corda to name but a few. Among his best-known works are those of the Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda, and those of the instrumental group Wassab, both of which he founded and which are highly regarded for their beautiful arrangements, modernity and use of instruments from around the world, especially from the African Continent. Gilú Amaral grew up surrounded by music in his home town of Olinda, north-eastern Brazil. From an early age, he participated in and learnt the famed rhythmical structures of the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé.
