About James Yoshizawa
James Yoshizawa is a drummer, percussionist and educator living in Los Angeles, CA. He holds a degree in classical percussion and has studied many musical styles from around the world, though he is most active as a jazz drum set player and Irish percussion specialist. He served as the bodhrán soloist and percussionist for the Broadway musical, “Come From Away” in 2016 during its run at Ford’s Theater in Washington, DC, he has recorded on many albums and some video game soundtracks, he has been a guest artist at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival every year since 2013, and he recently won 1st place in the 2022 All-Ireland International Bones Competition in Abbeyfeale, Ireland. While in college, he was awarded the 2007 PAS Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship.
He can be seen performing with many ensembles, including the Nick Mancini Collective, the Chris Norton Band, the ELEW Trio, Saga, Dylan Meek, and an Irish ensemble he recently formed under his own name.
