About Norfolk State University's Million Dollar Funk Squad
The Million Dollar Funk Squad is the drumline of Norfolk State University, an HBCU located in Norfolk, VA. Affectionately known as “MD,” this group has performed in various national events, including the 2023 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, as members of the Spartan “Legion” Marching Band, and the 2007 Virginia International Tattoo. Since the founding of the section in 1976, MD has gained recognition for their innovation in blending rudimental vocabulary with hard-hitting grooves. In the highly competitive world of HBCU drumming, MD continues to push the envelope with their unique style known as “Rudimental Funk.” The group is endorsed by Vic Firth, Dynasty Percussion, and Remo Inc.
