About Perceum
Perceum was founded by Jorge Camiruaga -head of the Percussion Department at the Music School of the University of Uruguay- to promote both the rich repertoire of new music especially written for percussion instruments, as well as the rhythms, instruments and compositions of traditional Uruguayan music. The ensamble also features percussionists Ricardo Gómez and Marcelo Zanolli, and has become one of the most interesting and stimulating options of the Uruguayan musical scene for the past thirty years. Perceum has performed an enormous variety of works, ranging from the classic percussion repertoire to the latest Latin-American compositions and they have commissioned and premiered pieces from the most representative composers of their country. During many years, they have hosted the Montevideo Percussion Festival (FPM), a biannual event that gathered some of the most prominent artists of the percussive arts. The Montevideo Percussion Ensamble has received grants from many local and international organizations and they have been recipients of the prestigious Morosoli Award for Artistic Achievement.
