About Percussion Gumbo

Members of Percussion Gumbo are all percussion professors at universities in the United States. They include Juan Alamo from the University of North Carolina at Chappel Hill, Troy Breux from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Chris Hanning from West Chester University, and John Wooton from the University of Southern Mississippi. After performing together at West Chester University last year, we decided to perform more as a group and develop original repertoire based on our mutual affinity for Latin Jazz. Also, we wanted to write music that showcased our diversity as percussionists – classical percussion training with in-depth experiences in various world drumming traditions as well as popular music, and jazz. The companies that endorse these artists include Pearl, Vic Firth, Zildjian, Yamaha, Innovative, Sabian, Remo, Yamaha, Meinl, and Encore.
