About Peter Kogan

Peter Kogan retired from the Minnesota Orchestra in 2015 after 29 years as Principal Timpani. Previous positions include Timpani and Drum Set with the Honolulu Symphony 1984 – 1986, Principal Percussion and Associate Principal Timpani with The Pittsburgh Symphony 1972 – 1977, and Percussion with The Cleveland Orchestra 1969 – 1972. He taught timpani and percussion at Oberlin Conservatory 1971 – 1972. Summer work as Principal Timpani has included The Santa Fe Opera and the Grand Teton Music Festival, and locally with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra and Lyra Baroque Orchestra. Appointed Affiliate Faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Music in 2010, he is a longtime member of the Symphonic Committee of PAS and performed at PASIC 2017 with the Emeritus Ensemble. Peter’s KLASSISCHEWIENERPAUKEN and HESSISCHE BAROCKPAUKEN will be on display at PASIC 2021. As jazz drummer and composer Peter has released 3 well reviewed CDs.
