Dane Romano is currently in his sixth year as the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion at Putnam City North High School. A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Romano graduated cum laude in May 2011 with Bachelor’s degrees in Instrumental Music Education and Instrumental Performance. Mr. Romano continued his education at OCU and in May of 2013 received his Masters of Music degree in Instrumental Performance.
In 2009 Mr. Romano was named the Most Outstanding Percussionist for the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps and in 2011 he was named the Outstanding Music Education student for Oklahoma City University. In 2010 and 2012 Mr. Romano competed, and was named a semi-finalist in the Southern California Marimba Competition. In 2012 he and his duo partner, Joseph Craven, were named finalists in the Collegiate Duo category and finished second receiving an honorable mention.
In 2013 Mr. Romano founded and became the Executive Director of the Great Plains International Marimba Competition based out of Oklahoma City. The competition seeks to provide educational performance opportunities through healthy and competitive competition for high school and collegiate age marimbists. The competition is currently in its fifth year continuing to draw competitors on a national and international level. In recent years competitors have traveled from places such as Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea to compete.
Currently Mr. Romano oversees all percussion studies grades 6-12 at Hefner Middle School and Putnam City North. He assists with marching band, teaches Symphonic Band, 7th grade percussion class, 6th grade percussion class, and 6th grade flute class daily. In addition, he holds a private studio of 25 students, who hold chairs in CODA Honor Bands and OMEA Ensembles annually. His Middle School Percussionists consistently earn Outstanding Percussion at the Heartland Music Festival and his High School Percussion Ensemble has performed eight years consecutively at the Oklahoma Day of Percussion festival. This is the ensemble’s first appearance at PASIC. The Putnam City North High School Percussion Ensemble is the third Oklahoma high school to earn this achievement in state and PASIC history.
