About Ron Hughes

Ron Hughes received his doctorate degree in Music Education from Boston University and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Education from the University of Illinois, He currently serves as the Percussion Director at Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ron’s percussion ensembles have been invited to perform at the National Percussion Festival, the Florida Day of Percussion, the Florida Music Educators Conference, and the University of South Florida Marimba Festival.

His private students have successfully auditioned into the Florida All-State ensembles–two or more each year since 1998. His students have also won numerous concerto and solo competitions, including the PASIC University Keyboard Competition, Florida Day of Percussion Solo Competition, National Public Radio’s “From the Top” Young Artists Award, the Great Plains International Marimba Competition, the United States International Music Competition (Finalist), and a National Young Arts Foundation Merit winner. Additionally, several have secured orchestral and collegiate teaching positions.

Ron performed with the World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and is an Innovative Percussion Educator/Endorser.
