About Staci Toma
Colorado-based percussionist, Staci Toma, has been honing her teaching skills since 2010. She started learning about West African Drum & Dance as a teenager, which led her to travel to Ghana to study with the late Bernard Woma. Subsequent travels to West Africa increased her understanding of the drum and dance culture. Currently on faculty at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Toma leads collegiate traditional drumming ensembles and travels to K-12 public schools across Colorado for clinics in West African Drum & Dance. Toma has a Bachelor of Music Performance degree with a French minor from Colorado State University and a Master of Music Performance degree with an Ethnomusicology minor from Indiana University. She has studied and performed in Ghana, Guinea, Austria, Australia, and the United States. A proponent of well-rounded education, Toma believes that it is essential to learn about cultural and global connections in music.
