About University of North Carolina at Pembroke Percussion Ensemble

Under the direction of Dr. Joseph Van Hassel, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Percussion Ensemble is comprised of percussion majors, minors, and non-majors. This ensemble comprises a major part of the percussionist’s performance experience at UNCP. With very few exceptions the ensemble is devoted to performing literature written expressly for percussion, encompassing a wide spectrum of styles from around the world.

The UNCP Percussion Ensemble has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, NCPAS Days of Percussion, the Darkwater Women in Music Festival, and the NCMEA Conference, and performed with guest artists James Culley (PAS Hall of Fame), Allen Otte (PAS Hall of Fame), Roger Braun, and Juan Alamo. They have premiered works by Gene Koshinski, George Lewis, Michael Udow, David Macbride, Michael Barnhart, Lindsey Jacob, Dan VanHassel, Jennifer Bernard Merkowitz, Rob Funkhouser, and Joshua Busman.
